At 19 Months

Warning: This is grandparent update material, so it's a lot of stats on Jude. If you could care less what he's eating or doing, feel free to wait until my next post! :)

Since we've reached the year and a half mark, and are just shy a couple days of 19 months, I figured I'd do an update of what Jude does/says/is up to these days.

Our once little bitty guy is now gaining in the height/weight department. At his check up, he was 24lbs and 33 inches (25% and 75% respectfully). So, we have a tall, skinny kiddo, which is not so fun to shop for since I have struggled to find pants that fit. Thankfully, he's now big enough for the pants that have elastic, and I've also been whip stitching the waists on his shorts so that they can fit now and later on when he gets bigger.

He's developing more of an opinion when it comes to food, or just an opinion in general. He's still a great eater as far as variety goes, but it just depends on what day of the week you catch him as far as what he'll decide to eat that day. Some days, I feel like he only will eat traditional kid food (chicken nuggets, pb&j, mac&cheese) but then the next day he'll eat half a spaghetti squash, cantaloupe, and hummus all day long. He's been on a carb strike lately, which has me questioning if he's actually my child... but I'm pretty sure the DNA will check out.

He's really started playing pretend quite a bit. He'll carry around his plastic animal toys and I'll find him moving them along the tables, or couch, or just around his room "acting" out some sort of scene or game. I think it's possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen him do. Yesterday, Josh said he was feeding his dinosaurs paper, and tickling them, which I'm really bummed I didn't get to see. He also loves to color, which has made me a huge believer in Color Wonder markers. He also likes to "help" when I'm cooking, but mostly I think he wants to climb on his "stairs" and get into the drawers. He also has a couple of chores now, which include unloading the silverware from the dishwasher (minus the knives, though he'd be excited if one was in there...), wiping down his spot at the table with a baby wipe, and cleaning up his room at night.

He's down to 1 nap a day, which he takes after lunch and bedtime is still around 9-9:30pm. The plus side to a night owl is that I can sleep in until 8:30 in the morning, so I haven't bothered to adjust his sleeping habits yet. He sleeps in a full size bed with a rail, though he can sleep without one most nights, we've had him fall off beds just enough that it's worth it to keep it on.

He doesn't watch much TV if we can help it, but we do let him have a few shows for afternoon grumpiness that result from not getting to be outside in the heat of the day. He loves Little Bear most of all, but has also started to branch out into Curious George and Dora territory. Honestly, I only think Dora made the cut because she sings about her backpack. He also loves to read his Jingle the Husky pup book and play with his Bambi deer toy. (Thanks great grandparents for both of those gifts!! Hallmark store wins!)

He has a pretty extensive vocabulary, at least I think it's extensive. We're starting to work on our ABC, 123, and color recognition as well. So far, he is pretty stuck on yellow and green. I'm curious to see if colors are a problem, and I may be anticipating it, since the poor kid could very well be color blind for all I know. It doesn't really bother me if he is, it'll just be a little more work for him down the road. The words and phrases he knows are listed at the bottom of this post.* It's definitely not a completely inclusive list, but it's everything I can think of without him here yammering on.

He LOVES to be outside, play basketball, and get chocolate milk. He also really loves the dog, and it's cute to see them interact together. Jude thinks he can boss the dog around, but the dog really just complies when I tell him what to do behind Jude's back. We took him to see a movie (Monster's University) last week and he did great in the theater, so we're hoping when we take him on his first flight in 3 weeks, it will go just as smoothly.

That's it for now!
