(a real stock image via google... oh internet... what DON'T you have?)
For the sake of record, I'm writing this post... but I'll warn you, it was perfectly "Ricci" and thus, not emotional and mushy and sweet at all.
We got our (+) on a Sunday afternoon after coming home from my parent's house. I was in a pretty great state of denial over the possibility of being pregnant and was actually getting ready to pop the cork on a bottle of blackberry wine I'd purchased from the Georgetown Winery the day before.
Josh and I were joking that I should take a test before to make sure it was "safe" for me to be drinking a glass or so, and I agreed so that I could say, "Ha! You just wasted $7 on a pee-stick and now I get to drink my wine smugly while gloating over my superior knowledge of my body."
I got two lines and Josh was excited.
I went into shock and shut down completely. I peed on another stick a day later and told a couple of my good friends in order to be talked down from my emotional state. (Insert image of sweet talking a psycho feral cat down from a 25 foot tree and that's the idea here.)
Two days later, I recovered.

When it was finally time to tell our folks... we settled on just calling.
For Josh's parents, we were able to get them on Skype and actually video the announcement. Well, Josh told them... I hid awkwardly outside of the camera view because, well, I'm awkward. I did make an appearance long enough to kindly ask that we not all stare at my stomach and say, "thank you" but I was still dealing with feeling weird about the whole thing.
My parent's can be next to impossible to get a hold of. A week after telling Josh's family, I finally got my mom on the phone with Dad in the same room. I just blurted it out and let them freak. My dad thought he was having a heart attack (which he wasn't) and my mom was just excited.
Since then, we've called extended family and others and I've gotten decidedly less awkward.... though I still don't like my stomach touched. Mostly because it's not a baby belly, but just my chunk, which I don't really even like Josh man handling 24/7.
So, there you have it.
It's not really that great.... but like I said, it was worth recording for my records.

Ahhhhh!!! I am so so excited for y'all! I can't wait to see you and be excited with you in person =D
ReplyDeleteHahaha. Best description ever of how those events happened. And, you're very right - it was "Totally Ricci" =)
