New (Old) Table

Since we're moving to a new place soon (six weeks, yiiiikes) I've already been slowly moving old furniture out and making room for other pieces.

One of the pieces we're upgrading is our dining room table. We currently have a little bistro table with two chairs, which has been great when we were just a family of 2, but since our little guy is getting older, we really needed to move to a table that had some more space.

I love the farmhouse style tables with the dark wood tops, clean lines, and white legs. When I was dreaming up tables, this was what I kept coming back to. I was convinced that my Fiestaware needed to be on this kind of table.

My grandparents offered us the table that my grandpa built when they moved into their farm house. It's built from an old wooden hospital door (appropriate, eh?) and did need some love, but had some beautiful lines and great potential (check out those legs)! The top was originally a butcher block counter top laminate that my family stripped off.

Painted legs with raw table top.

As we were discussing how to recover the top at Lowes, we came up with the idea to use ceramic tile that mimics the look of wood. This way, we get the look of a wood top, but I can clean it like tile. Win win win.

This weekend we were at my folks to go to a family reunion, Mom and I decided to do the painting and see how far we could get on the tile. We got the legs painted with 2 coats, and were even able to get all our tiles cut and laid out.

It's still got a ways to go before it's done, but here's the pictures of where we are so far!

We're excited to see the end result and should have it when we move to the new place!
