Meet the Peppernut Cookie.
For 24 years, I only believed these to come out of my grandma’s kitchen. During the holidays, these little gold nuggets become valuable bartering tools. “Hey Dad, you want your new tomtom? Oh, well, that’s going to cost you about 50 peppernuts.” “Oh, what’s up Ryan… oh, really? You need a ride to the store to buy food for hungry dogs at the animal shelter? 100 peppernuts. Each direction.” Many a peppernut heists have occurred. Blood has been spilled for these little treats. I believed them to be a closely guarded recipe. I was the only person in the world who had a grandma who made these tasty little spicy cookies.
Come to realize… there’s a whole wealth of information about them on the interwebs. (Google, I’ll never doubt you again.)
Well, Grandma, guess they weren’t just magical cookies only you knew how to do. I suppose I was giving you too much credit for that one.
Anyway.
They’re delicious.
I like to eat them while drinking something. After two decades of extensive research, they pair well with:
Cocoa
Coffee
Tea (hot or cold)
Water
Gingerale (personal favorite)
You can find about fifty recipes for them online, so go try some.
They still won’t be as good as my grandma’s, though.
