BBQ. Fishing Shirts. 'MERICA.

After all the wedding craziness (pictures of that coming soon!) we came home only to make a quick turn-around and head down to La Vernia, Texas.

During the week in between, my mom turned the big 5-0 and my Aunt Nancy came up with Kelli so that she could check out campus and take a few high school senior photos for the upcoming year. We took her around campus and got her excited about applying to and coming to Aggieland in the fall.

My mom had requested for her birthday that we met them down there where my uncle built a BBQ rig and entered into a city cook off. He asked my mom and Josh if they would be interested in being the two judges the teams were required to put into the judging pool. We got down Friday night in time to enjoy dutch oven apple cobbler, some leftover test BBQ, and visit for a bit. On Saturday, I went to visit my grandma for a bit while Josh checked in to judge the chicken category. 19 plates later, he was tired, so my Mom and I wound up going back to judge the brisket category, where I got to sample 16 entries of brisket.

In the end, my uncle didn't place in any category, but we had a great time!
