Today Josh and I (separately, thanks to my job) looked at a 2/1.5, two-story fourplex in town.
Short(est) story: We both really liked it.
Long(ish) Short story: The duplex definitely gives us the more than the amount of space we were looking for (it's about 1,100 sq. feet vs. the 850-900 sq. feet we were thinking) and there are plenty of cabinets that we can use for storage of our things. The living/dining/kitchen is on the bottom story, with the bedrooms and semi-jack&jill bath upstairs. There are 4 closets upstairs as well as two medicine cabinets and two storage cabinets in the bathroom, so we shouldn't be in want for linen storage.
The bedroom is much larger than the ones we've been looking at. There are a lot of windows throughout the house, which gives us a lot of natural light. We've loved the natural light we get in our current house, so this was a bonus for us.
Just so we don't seem like we're looking at it with rose colored glasses, we'll really have to get creative with the living/dining room space since we'd like to have it function as living/dining/office space. We aren't interested in having the computer upstairs with us. Also, the bathrooms struck me as being a little bit dark and while there is great storage for small things, we do have some large items (like our Christmas tree) that we'll really struggle to find a place for.
So, tomorrow we'll go and sign papers. Assuming nothing is wonky and all goes well, we'll be pre-leasing to move in in May! Hooray! The house hunt of 2011 may be coming to a close!
